Additionally, the other node might hang (become unresponsive) temporarily while opening the printer properties or printing preferences.

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
-You have Print Role installed on a Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 based Failover Cluster.
-You have a inbox or OEM HP based print driver installed.

HP print drivers affected:
--------------------------
OEM HP Universal Printing driver 4.5 PCL 5
OEM HP Universal Printing driver 4.5 PCL 6
OEM HP Universal Printing driver 4.5 PCL PS
OEM HP Universal Printing driver 4.7 PCL 5
OEM HP Universal Printing driver 4.7 PCL 6

OEM HP print drivers PCL 5(using UPD engine older than UPD 5.1 engine.)
OEM HP print drivers PCL 6(using UPD engine older than UPD 5.1 engine.)
OEM HP print drivers PS(using UPD engine older than UPD 5.1 engine.)
inbox HP PCL 5 print drivers *
inbox HP PCL 6 print drivers *
inbox HP PS print drivers *

*Note:  That ship with Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008/Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2 using UPD engine older than UPD 5.0 engine.

RESOLUTION
HP is working an a new version of the OEM HP Universal Printing Driver version (to be announced) PCL5 or PCL 6 or PS.  Keep an eye on HP's website:

MPSreports and MSDT do not gather the Virtual Print Queue information from a Windows Server Failover Cluster

$

0

Applies to:

Windows Server 2003

Windows Server 2008

Windows Server 2008 R2

On a Windows Server Failover Cluster based system when you run the MPSReport or MSDT Setup/Performance or Cluster or PFE version, you might notice that it only collects local Print server related information (print queues, print drivers, printer ports).

To work-around this:

Click on Start, Run, CMD.exe

CD\Windows\MPSReports\setup\bin\

oeminbox.exe \\VirtualPrintServerName –v > c:\temp\PrintCluster.txt

Note:  Where \\VirtualPrintServerName is the network name of the virtual print resource.

CD\Windows\MPSReports\setup\bin\

oeminbox.exe \\VirtualPrintServerName–v > c:\temp\PrintCluster.txt

Note:  Where \\VirtualPrintServerName is the network name of the virtual print resource.
